“Adam”

Some brain food for everyone :)

Here is one translation by Roy Campbell from “The Selected Poems of Federico García Lorca” which was published in 1955.

Adam

BY FEDERICO GARCÍA LORCA

The morning by a tree of blood was dewed
and near to it the newborn woman groans.
Her voice left glass within the wound, and strewed
the window with a diagram of bones.

Meanwhile the day had reached with steady light
the limits of the fable, which evades
the tumult of the bloodstream in its flight
towards the dim cool apple in the shades.

Adam, within the fever of the clay,
dreams a young child comes galloping his way,
felt in his cheeks, with double pulse of blood.

But a dark other Adam dreaming yearned
for a stone neuter moon, where no seeds bud,
in which that child of glory will be burned.

I found out about this French McDonald’s commercial on Yahoo (http://buzz.yahoo.com/buzzlog/93724?fp=1) , and I am so glad I found it. I WISH commercials like this could be on TV in America and hopefully they eventually will. Most of all I just like the tagline: Come as you are. Not only is it the name of a a classic Nirvana song, but it is exactly what we should be saying to everyone. JUST COME AS YOU ARE! So kudos to the McDonald’s creative team. However, no kudos for the fact that I just found out your food might not really decompose?  (http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_upshot/20101012/bs_yblog_upshot/mcdonalds-happy-meal-resists-decomposition-for-six-months) Thanks Yahoo.

Anyway! YAY FRANCE! It’s times like these when I’m majorly proud of my french heritage.

Note to Self: I WILL become fluent in French again. IT WILL HAPPEN.

Love the Process.

Believe in yourself. You are enough. Everything happens for a reason. Trust yourself. Do your best. Love the process. Be grateful for every opportunity you have. You will end up where you’re supposed to end up.

These are the kinds of things I have to tell myself as senior year trudges on. There is just so much to do and so many places to apply that are just so competitive. I feel like almost all I talk about with my parents is college and that everything I’m doing is working towards getting those acceptance letters. And as the college visiting and application process begins (I just visited the wonderful Ithaca and Syracuse with my very generous parents) and the audition process follows in January, it doesn’t seem like this is going to change much. But as I lie in bed recognizing how overwhelmed I’m letting myself be… I think to myself: what good is it to be overwhelmed? I can do this. And I know that I can. I just need to put 100% into everything I’m trying to do and trust that I am enough. I will enjoy this year and work hard enough so that no matter what the end result is, I will be able to look back and know that I did my best - that the year was a success. Also if I keep those earlier mantras in my mind, I have no doubt that I will be happy with my end result. Of course stress will come and go as the year moves along, but it will be okay because I can handle it. I can’t wait for this process to really get going. I can’t wait to know where I will be in fall! I CAN’T WAIT FOR COLLEGE! But I won’t take this year for granted. I mean why would they write so many teenage dramas about senior year, if it wasn’t something so epic? I’ve been looking forward to being a senior for as long as I can remember. And, the day has finally come. This year is going to be awesome.

Let’s do this thing.

As I sit in my dorm room on my bed with a virtually frozen nose doing Precalculus homework, it’s songs like this one that make me truly happy. Harry Chapin was such a wonderful artist and story teller. July marked 29 years since his passing. RIP Harry. RIP. The “Heads and Tales” will always remind me of home.

(P.S isn’t that random guy’s falsetto amazing? haha)

(P.P.S I MIGHT ACTUALLY GO TO BED EARLIER THAN 2 AM TONGIHT!!)
